Rice ( चावल )

Rice is a cereal grain which belongs to grass family of Germinae.


Rice Producing States


Nearly all states are favorable for rice farming, Chhattisgarh is called Rice bowl of India. Mainly West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Bihar,  Punjab, Haryana, Tripura, Kerala,

Favorable Climate

Favorable temperature ranges between 21–35 °C, but paddy can tolerate upto 43 C at most. Generally it requires high temperature during growth stage.

Soil Requirement
Optimum pH rate of the soil would be between 5 and 8, above and below this conditions yielding would be effective.

SOWING TIME
Generally May to July. Best germination occurs when soil temperatures range from 25 to 35°C.

Growing Duration
3-4 Months mainly depend on seed variety.

CULTIVATION
Short duration variety – 15 x 10 cm
Medium duration variety – 20 x 10 cm
Long duration variety – 20 x 15 cm

Some Variety of Rice
Kappakkar, Vaigunda, Pichavari, Kurangusamba, Kattu Samba, Sornavari, Neelansamba, Kudiraival these are the varieties mainly sown in India.

SOWING RATE
The seed rate varies according to the method & variety of seed to be cultivated.
Short duration variety:  65–80 kg / h
Medium duration variety:  50–65 kg / h
Long duration variety:  40–60 kg / h
Dry and rain fed sowing:  85–110 kg / h

Water Requirement
Maintain at least 2-3 cm of water in the field till crop is fully mature but Water should be drained out from the field before 15 days of harvest else depending on the soil.

Manure & Fertilizers
Super Potassium Humate, Neem Oil, DAP, Humic Pro, NPK, Urea & more inputs depending on their land requirement

Harvesting
Harvesting is done mainly by hand after adequate sunlight the crop cut and stored in shade for 1-2 days and then harvested, now a day’s combine harvester also harvest rice.

Storage
It is to be stored in dry area where moist condition is avoided.
