Birsa Agricultural University is one of the famous universities after the Bihar and Ranchi University; it was set up on 26th June, 1981 after its formal introduction by the then Prime Minister of India, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. Its main aim is to develop area the specific technologies and manpower in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry for the agricultural development of the plateau region of Bihar and financial upliftment of tribal and other in reverse class population of the region.
The Birsa Agricultural University provide the various programme and activities in the field of education, research and extension are carried out through 3 faculties for Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry with 35 departments in College of Biotechnology, 6 Directorates, 3 Zonal Research Stations and farms, 1 University farm, 16 Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Computer Centre, Central Library and other infrastructure and service units. To complete the residential University, hostels for boys and girls and residential building for Teachers/Scientists and supporting staff have been provided in the campus.

Birsa Agricultural University is located in Ranchi-Patratu road, approx. 8 Km north of main Ranchi Town and 13 Km north of railway station and approx. 17 km north of Ranchi Airport.

There are various facilities provided the Women’s Employment Programme, Poly house, Glass house, Green house, sports and games and Instrumentation facilities. At the place of BAU, Technology Park is one of famous park which is situated in the main campus where you can get the latest technologies developed by farmers.
It’s main aim is to develop the specific area of technologies developed in the research, education, and animal husbandry field.
